Question: I deal intensively with endgame compositions and therefore use intensively the position setup of the program to store the endgame positions in a separate database. In many endgame problems a transformation is mandatory for the solution. If I place the l-pawn on the last row for conversion, it is always converted to a queen. In the options I have switched off the option "Always convert to queen".

How can I make the program convert to another piece, for example a knight?

Example: in this position, Black can force mate by converting g2-g1 S to a knight.

When I move the pawn to the last row, is it automatically converted to a queen?

Answer: before you move the pawn to the last row for conversion, press the key combination CTRL+SHIFT. Keep the key combination pressed!

Now the following dialog is displayed:

Here you can now simply select the desired figure type that the program is to set by mouse click.

Tip: this procedure also works on our chess server at Playchess.com if you use the Windows client to play the games.
