Question: since some time I can't load opening books in CTG format under the Fritz interface! The problem occurs in engine matches and also -especially annoying- on the server. It doesn't matter if the checkmarks are set and I load one of the available opening books. In the engine matches it doesn't change anything if I select "Unify Book" in the settings dialog.
I then tried to load an opening book for each engine separately. All steps don't help and so I don't test the chess engines with their opening books. When I use an opening book for analysis, the statistics and embedded information are displayed, so access works. What could be the reason for this?
Answer: the book options dialog offers different options, e.g. Optimal, Normal, Handicap etc. Make sure that you always select the setting "Optimal" before using the opening book for the described purposes. With this setting - which is very important for checking the position tree in the Enginematch - the opening book is then accepted by the program and you can use the book for the matches.
